Blends
Bards Blends
wine kits are made from selected very high quality Italian
grapes. Bards Blends have chosen the grapes from the northen
parts of Italy because of the cooler climate there which we
belive results in better balanced wines than grapes friom
the more southern mediterranian countries.
The Bards Blends
Wine Kits are available in 23 liter and 4.5 liter versions.
Only sugar & water to add.
Available as:
French Red
The French Red kit is based on one of the best known red grapes-the
Merlot. The grape was first named as a distinct variety in
the 1800s. It is known as a Noble Bordeaux varietal. Not quite
as harsh as other reds, Merlot has less tannin that a Cabernet
and can therefore be drunk earlier. It is melllow but still
complex, a bit chewy. Merlot is known for the flavours of
plums, black cherry, violets, and orange. It is a perfect
match for beef and other medium-heavy dishes. Try some with
a rich, red pasta dish, or even roast chicken.
Italian Red
The Sangiovese grape has been chosen for the Italian Red as
it is based of Chianti - the most typical Italian Red of them
all. The Sangiovese blend will produce a medium-bodied red
wine with rich cherry or plumlike flavours and aromas. It
is well worth keeping but can also be enjoyed immediately.
Italian White
For the Italian White kit is made from Trebbiano - a very
typical northen Italian grape. Trebbiano, another name for
ugni blanc, is slightly behind Airen in land usage - in part
because Trebbiano vines can be planted much more closely together
than Airen. It there is thought to produce more actual wine
than any other wine grape. It is commonly used as a base for
brany, but is also a typical table in many parts of France
and Italy. Is is also listed as an ingredient.
German White
Riesling from the northen redion of Veneto has been use in
the German White kit. Riesling is a late-ripening grape, woth
only a moderate yield. This makes it difficlut to grow, which
is often reflected in the price. A well grown riesling will
be a sweet but complex white wine that ages very well. Typical
Riesling flavours include furity and floral, as well as honey
and musky.

Cantina
The wine making kits in our Cantina 5-day series are produced
from Italian quality grape juices. Our supplies of grapes come
from the northern Italian regions of Emilia and Tuscany. We
prefer northern Italian grapes to the more common southern ones
from Spain or south Italy. The reason is that the cooler climate
tends to produce higher quality grapes, with a more clean and
complex wine as the result. With the help of a recently developed,
highly specialized yeast/nutrient mix we are here able to ferment
a wine in 4 days only (the 5th is used for clearing) and still
retaining most of the grape qualities. During the development
of this winekit we found that the using high quality grape concentrate
becomes more important the faster the fermentation. For a 4-day
fermentation, only a few European concentrates will work well.
It is possible to ferment even faster, ultimately down to one
day only but this will result in a massive loss of quality and
to make it taste anything like a wine, most of the wine flavour
will have to be added artificially afterwards. We have not entered
that path, we believe in a more natural way of producing wine.

Grand Superior
Winekits
are made from 100% pure varietal grape concentrate. All types
include separately packed oak chips - different for each variety
- used to bring out all the complex flavours which can normally
only be achieved through barrel ageing. Each type has is own
specific yeast strain developed to enhance the characteristics
of the variety. Grand Superior produce complex wines of great
character with all the aromas and flavours of the variety.
They will be ready in 4-6 weeks but develop wonderfully with
further bottle ageing
