Gold
Many years
ago - centuries in fact - it was discovered that the way to
brew the best ales and beers was to use only malt, hops, water
and yeast in the brewing process. In the 15th Century in Germany
this was taken a stage further with the introduction of the
"Reinheitsgebot" - a law prohibiting the use of any ingredients
in the brewing process other than these raw materials.
This law stood
until only a few years ago when the EEC over-ruled the "Reinheitsgebot"
which they considered to be a barrier to free-trade within
Europe! In spite of this the breweries have refused to change
their recipes and still brew using only the four magic ingredients
- their customers would not be satisfied with anything less,
they tell us.
Traditional
English ales were brewed originally without hops but tastes
change once hops from the Continent were introduced keeping
the ale fresh for longer. Beer drinkers gradually developed
a taste for the new "hopped ales" and in the 15th Century
the modern tasting English ale was borne. More recently, economic
pressure has forced many breweries to introduce cheaper adjuncts
into the brewing process. Purists will argue however that
the beer quality has suffered because of this and that it
is far better to stick to the traditional practices. We at
Muntons agree, which is why the Gold Range was developed,
a range designed simply to make great beer.
Types:
Continental Pils, Old English Bitter, Imperial Stout, Docklands
Porter India Pale Ale, Highland Heavy

Premium
The Muntons
Premium range was developed for the original four kits in
the early days of English home-brewing.
Formulations
for this range have purposely not been changed since they
were first developed back in the early 1970's - a tremendous
heritage and a proven track record.
The Premium
range has been extended to include styles of beer from far
reaches of the world. American Style Light, Canadian Style
Beer, Scottish Style Heavy Ale, Old Ale and so on.
The Premium
range allows home beer makers to experience flavours from
around the world in their own homes, enjoyably and economically.
Once again
the Muntons Premium range is made entirley from 100% hopped
malt extract with no inferior or cheap adjuncts such as barley
syrup. There is one notable exception to this however - the
American Style Light Beer. To emulate the light delicate character
of this popular beer style it was necessary to include in
the kit a percentage of liquid sugar. This is the only beer
kit in the extensive Muntons ranges made from anything other
than 100% hopped malt extract.
Types:
American light 40pts, Canadian Beer 40pts, Old Ale 40pts,
Bitter 40pts, Lager 40pts, Scottish Heavy 30pts, Barley Wine
24pts,
Midlands Mild 40pts, Irish Stout 35pts, Pilsner 40pts

Malt Extract
Muntons
range of canned malt extracts are all made from only the finest
selected two row English barley malt. After mashing, the resultant
wort is evaporated using our multi stage evaporators which
gently removes excess water leaving a concentrated extract
of malt at approximately 80% solids, 20% residual water.
The extracts
are canned and pasteurised all on the same site as the malt
and malt extraction processes and under the same quality assurance
umbrella. Process temperatures are monitored carefully to
ensure that no excess heat is applied which would damage the
fine quality of the extracts during processing.
The resultant
products are finally labelled and carefully packed ready for
despatch to our customers. The three varieties of malt extracts
produced, light, medium and dark, are each designed to act
as the ultimate building block for your own recipe formulation.
The major advantage
in brewing from Muntons malt extracts is that you are able
to formulate your own recipe, using your own selection of
hops and yeast, to brew a beer which perfectly matches your
palate.
Our quality
assurance and attention to detail ensures that the product
you receive is always produced to an exacting specification
offering you the ultimate in consistency time and again.
There are inevitably
as many recipes for brewing beer as there are people in the
world. If you would like to start brewing using one of our
range of unhopped malt extracts we would recommend you discuss
your own personal beer preferences with your local beer and
wine making retailer who should be able to formulate a specific
recipe to brew a beer which suits your tastes or alternatively
will recommend a good book that will provide an endless supply
of recipes for you to try.

Light 1.8kg, Medium 1.8kg, Dark 1.8kg

Perfect Pint
The Perfect
Pint range is a budget range with a very big difference. The
difference is that although the price is budget the quality
is more akin to a Premium brand.
They have refused
to include any barley syrup in Perfect Pint (unlike most other
"budget" brands) which means that our 1.5kg kit will easily
sustain a 40 pint yield maintaining all of the flavour and
body of a premium beer.
They have achieved
this and yet still managed to keep Perfect Pint at a truly
budget price. Perfect Pint is an ideal range for the cost
conscious beer maker or for individuals who are brewing on
a budget. All Perfect Pint beers have an OG of approximately
1038°.
